伝統的なムビラの歌には「戦争」「狩り」「雨乞い」のことについての詩が多いが、いずれの詩もダイレクトに受け取ると、素朴なものが多い。言葉というものはあくまでも言葉で、その中にある精神性を浮かび上がらせるためのものがムビラと言ってもいいだろう。逆にいえばムビラによって、言葉の意味を知るのである。ムビラゼナリラの歌詞もそういった意味で聞いてみると面白い。この欄ではリーダーのテンダイにショナ語から英語に訳して頂いたものを日本語訳して紹介する。
